This show, Above and Below, is a departure from my traditional watercolors. It both pushed the limits of the medium and challenged my imagination.
The inspiration for this show came after visiting two unique sites. At the Bishop Planetarium in Bradenton, Florida, images showing the fantasy that is deep space are displayed. At the Bermuda Aquarium in Hamilton, Bermuda, exhibits highlight sea life in deep ocean trenches, some of which can be as deep as 36,000 ft. The two worlds which are so different yet so similar fascinated me.
Through these pieces I aim to take the viewer on an imaginary voyage to deepest spaces both above and below our ordinary world.
20% of the profits from this show are being donated to the Madonna Fund at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in Harvard, MA. The Madonna Fund provides assistance to young mothers who are battling cancer.
