Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night is an international movement designed to raise awareness of sexual assault and other forms of gender violence against women and others who are at risk.

The event, highlighted by an outdoor rally and march, is capped off by a speak-out in a more private setting. The past two years and continuing in 2018, the speak-out will take place at University Crossing on Merrimack St. on the UMLowell campus during the month of April - sexual assault awareness month. The actual date of next year's event is still to be decided.

ALL has been a sponsor of Take Back the Night for the past twelve years, with Jean Winslow representing ALL on the planning board of the event. Jean has been primarily responsible for staging an art show and providing musicians and other performers at the event. On the strength of the success of past events it has been suggested by the TBTN board that the arts component become a more visible and integral part of the program as a whole. One of the ideas put forth is that the art show not be limited to a one time only exhibit at the event, but expand to a pre-event exhibit for the weeks or month preceding the date.

Towards that end we are seeking artists, performers and/or enthusiasts who are interested in being involved in planning the arts component of next year's Take Back the Night in Lowell program.

Please contact jeanwinslow@msn.com to note your interest.
